About
Hi, I'm Philipp — a surfer and software engineer from Germany. Over the past 10 years, I've spent a lot of time exploring the Atlantic coast of Europe, searching for waves and learning about the ocean.
This project is a personal experiment I've had in mind for quite some time. It's my attempt to address some of the challenges I see in surfing today, while building the kind of tools I wish existed in my own search for good waves.
Surfing has always required dedication, patience, and a deep respect — for nature, for local communities, and for each other in the lineup and beyond. Yet today, with many surf spots mapped out, forecasts reduced to simple traffic lights, and social media amplifying the crowds, some of the magic is fading. I believe this can harm the lineup, fuel frustration in the water, and ultimately weaken the joy and connection to nature that surfing should bring.
That's why this app takes a different approach:
- It won't hand out secret surf spots publicly on a map - your spots will remain private.
- It won't reduce forecast and surf complexity to green-yellow-red.
This application is designed to encourage you to make your own observations, analyze swell, wind, and coastal patterns, and discover your own spots that match your vibe and your conditions.

- Start with a curated set of public surf spots — or add your own private spots that only you can see.
- Set personal condition preferences per spot (swell, wind, tide ranges) to define what works for you.
- Track surf sessions manually or import Garmin surf activities via CSV.
- Log quick spot checks when you observe conditions without surfing — convertible to full sessions.
- Today's forecast visualization with interactive compass, sparklines, time slider, and tide curve.
- 7-day forecast overview with day-by-day detail.
- Session condition analysis with charts correlating your sessions to weather data.
- Auto-suggested condition preferences derived from your session history.
- Tide predictions with tide curve on the forecast time slider and tide phase scoring.
- Historical weather context for past sessions and spot checks.

- Personalized spot recommendations — scoring your spots against current forecasts based on your session history and condition preferences.
- Best-window finder — identifying the best consecutive hours across your spots for the next few days.

- Trip planner — from quick "where should I surf this weekend?" to planning longer surf trips along the coast, with spot suggestions based on distance, forecast, and seasonal patterns.
