About

Hi, I'm Philipp — a surfer and software engineer from Germany. Over the past 10 years, I've spent a lot of time exploring the Atlantic coast of Europe, searching for waves and learning about the ocean.

This project is a personal experiment I've had in mind for quite some time. It's my attempt to address some of the challenges I see in surfing today, while building the kind of tools I wish existed in my own search for good waves.

Surfing has always required dedication, patience, and a deep respect — for nature, for local communities, and for each other in the lineup and beyond. Yet today, with many surf spots mapped out, forecasts reduced to simple traffic lights, and social media amplifying the crowds, some of the magic is fading. I believe this can harm the lineup, fuel frustration in the water, and ultimately weaken the joy and connection to nature that surfing should bring.

That's why this app takes a different approach:

  • It won't hand out surf spots on a map - your spots will remain private.
  • It won't reduce forecasts to green-yellow-red.

This application is designed to encourage you to make your own observations, analyze swell, wind, and coastal patterns, and discover your own spots that match your vibe and your conditions.

Current Features

  • Retrieve surf forecasts from public data providers based on coordinates.

In Development

  • Upload tracked Garmin surf activities (CSV) to view historical conditions.
  • Core functionality and app architecture (user system, authentication, forecast retrieval, security).
  • Tide calculation for historical forecasts (bug fix in progress).

Planned Features

  • Email notifications based on your preferred conditions.
  • Support for uploading surf sessions tracked with Apple Watch.
  • A recommendation system using basic ML to analyze your personal surf history, find patterns, and support your own observations.

Happy to get your feedback and ideas — they could become a big part of shaping this project.
